Bio

Jeffrey Tanenhaus is a writer and photographer with a passion for passport stamps. His articles on exotic destinations, architectural features and restaurant reviews have appeared in publications at home in New York and abroad.

Jeffrey’s street-smart skills – honed through journalism and living on three continents – give an edgy yet unbiased angle to his work. He added a video recorder to his freelance repertoire by producing a series of short clips highlighting destinations around Colombia for Tripfilms.com.

Continuing further south, he spent seven months studying Spanish language and Argentine literature and cinema at the University of Buenos Aires.

Before embarking on adventures in Latin America, Jeffrey taught English in Tokyo for two years. He blogged about cultural differences and humorous episodes in the classroom while contributing to Japan’s leading English-language publications.

Jeffrey graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College where he wrote prolifically for the nation’s oldest college newspaper, The Dartmouth. He was then promoted to editor of the Arts & Entertainment section. His degree in geography landed him a job on the far-flung island of Guam working at Micronesia’s largest resort as a land and sea sports instructor.

Currently, Jeffrey can be found pointing out local landmarks from the top of double-decker tour buses looping around Manhattan. He is also the author and primary photographer of Essential New York, a leading NYC guide for the iPhone and iPod touch. Within three weeks of release, it became the #1 guide to the city (besting Lonely Planet and Frommer’s), the #3 app for anything about NYC and one of the top 30 paid apps for worldwide travel.
